Low level light therapy

An elective research project conducted by Krishna Suba, a 5th year Manchester Dental student, into the efficacy of Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) as a treatment option, or adjunct, in a range of inflammatory conditions including periodontal disease. This was carried out in Birmingham Dental School and funded by a grant from Somanda. It is not Low level light therapy

School of Dentistry News 2016

Chief dental officer appointment Sara Hurley, Chief Dental Officer for England, has been appointed Honorary Professor in Dentistry at the University of Manchester’s School of Dentistry. Professor Hurley will work with researchers in health technology and evidence synthesis and brings her expertise in strategy and health policy. She gave an inaugural lecture in May. Gordon Alexander Smith

1943 – 2015 Gordon Smith died in Wythenshawe Hospital on 7th June 2015 following a progressively restrictive respiratory disease which he endured stoically. Born in Forfar on 1st November 1943 he qualified BDS St Andrews in 1967, where he won several prizes, and joined their staff before moving to Manchester in 1971 where he was Gordon Alexander Smith

Eustace Peter Turner

1924 – 2014 Dr Peter Turner was born in Handforth, Cheshire in March 1924 and qualified in dentistry in Edinburgh in 1947. His national service started in the RADC, but finding this a bit mundane, he joined the Parachute Regiment and would have been posted to Germany if he hadn’t broken an ankle in a Eustace Peter Turner

Robin M Davies

1940 – 2015 Robin Davies died on 5th April 2015 in Warrington General Hospital following a short illness. He qualified from Manchester with a BDS in 1962, a PhD in 1968 and between the two gained a Diploma in Bacteriology (Dip Bact). He held posts as Senior Lecturer in Periodontology in Manchester; head of Dental Robin M Davies

Biennial meeting 2015

The Biennial meeting of SOMANDA took place on Friday April 17th 2015. The morning format followed our usual style.
