Japan Exchange programme great success.

By Sana Thagia and Oksana Paluszkiewicz In July 2025 we were given the amazing opportunity to take part in an exchange programme with the Nippon Dental University (NDU) School of Life Dentistry, in Japan. After having spent a fantastic 2 weeks hosting our international guests in Manchester it was now our turn to immerse ourselves Japan Exchange programme great success.

Geoffrey Price RIP.

Sadly we must announce the death of another alumni, Geoffrey Price who passed away at his home in South Wales in April. Pip Thomas, an long time friend of Geoffrey commented: “He and I were in the same South Wales Grammar school although he was in the year above me. He and I became good Geoffrey Price RIP.

Dennis Earle. RIP.

Somanda have been made aware of the sad passing of one of our long standing members. Dennis Earle was one of those students who was asked to do a BSc in Physiology after gaining a distinction in that subject in 2nd BDS.  He gained his distinction in 1968, his BSc in 1972 and his BDS in Dennis Earle. RIP.

Students experience Stovit Summer Course in Indonesia.

By Jacqueline Kiah Develter, Samyuktha Janavikulam, Yi Jean Lau – BDS Year 5 Earlier this year, we had the privilege of attending the first collaboration of the Stovit Summer Course x Prosthodontic Summer Camp 2024, at Universitas Airlangga in Surabaya, Indonesia. Our week on this course brought together over 40 students from 8 different countries Students experience Stovit Summer Course in Indonesia.

DiPS International: Kenya (2024)

DiPS (Dentists in Primary Schools) was a consultant-supervised, student-led project established in 2021 by the MPDSS (Manchester Paediatric Dentistry Student Society). At the time, rates of decay in 5-year-olds of Greater Manchester were higher than the national average. Therefore,the project aimed to improve children’s oral health through interactive DiPS International: Kenya (2024)

BDS Y4 Student Exchange Programme 2024 – The Nippon Dental University, Japan

As neither of us had previously visited Japan, we were overwhelmingly excited to experience a new country and culture! Dr Margaret Conway RIP.

It is with regret that we inform of the death of Dr Margaret Conway (nee Bromley, formerly Brock, aged 100. Margaret studied dentistry during the years of the Second World War, graduating BDS LDS in 1946. During her years as a student, she fire watched from the roof of the School of Dentistry and drove Dr Margaret Conway RIP.

Highly enjoyable Graduation Ball held.

The Graduation Ball 2024 was a wonderful occasion jointly held for BDS and BSc students. The dinner took place at the Hyatt Regency Manchester Saturday the 15th of July.  The evening commenced with a drinks reception accompanied by a beautiful string quartet. A professional photographer was on hand to record the evening. A party atmosphere prevailed Highly enjoyable Graduation Ball held.

I’m Ian Hunt, class of 1990. In June 2024 my sons Tom (on the left), Alex (on the right) and myself are gearing up and preparing to ride from London to Paris as part of the Cure Leukaemia ride to raise funds for this important charity that has helped our son so much. Our Biennial General Meeting will take place on October 11th 2024 at the Regency Hyatt Hotel in Manchester and we look forward to seeing as many members and friends as possible in Manchester on that date.
