Hannah’s close encounter of the furred kind

Hannah Shields previously told us about her success in reaching the summit of Everest in 2007 having narrowly failed at her first attempt in 2003.

Professor Henry Atkinson celebrates his centenary.

In 2010, we published an article on Professor Atkinson, a Manchester graduate who emigrated to Australia in 1953 and became a Professor in the Melbourne Dental School, describing how he had reorganised and rescued the Melbourne Dental School Museum and was still working there two days a week at the age of 97. On Monday Professor Henry Atkinson celebrates his centenary.

A Maxillofacial Surgeon at War Michael (Mike) Williams graduated BDS from Manchester in 1982 having been an Army Cadet. After taking his FDS in Glasgow the army sent him to Sheffield to study medicine and he subsequently passed his FRCS in both London and Edinburgh. Professor Joseph R Moore

Professor Joseph Moore died peacefully at home on 28th of April 2012. He was highly regarded and will be remembered by many students and members of staff with great respect. Hannah Shields conquers Everest.

In 2003, severe frostbite forced climber, Hannah Shields to abandon her ascent of Everest only 100 metres from the summit. But just four years later she returned and succeeded in conquering the mother of all mountains from the Tibetan side. This is her personal account of her challenge. Charles Anthony (Tony) Brooks Charles Antony Tony Brooks was born in 1932, in Dukinfield where his father was a general dental practitioner. He entered Manchester University to study dentistry in 1951, and started club motor racing in 1952 with his mother’s Healey Silverstone.
