The Graduation Ball 2024 was a wonderful occasion jointly held for BDS and BSc students. The dinner took place at the Hyatt Regency Manchester Saturday the 15th of July.
The evening commenced with a drinks reception accompanied by a beautiful string quartet. A professional photographer was on hand to record the evening. A party atmosphere prevailed with a glittery photo backdrop and balloons galore.
A few graduates kindly posed with the Somanda banner (which is I must say was a bit tricky to assemble).
As the dinner commenced so did a number of sometimes quirky awards and presentations. The speeches were a testament to the warmth and respect which the year of 2024 has for the tutors and staff at Manchester. A moment was taken to reflect upon the challenges which this Covid cohort have faced with good humour and determination.
A number of staff attended including Professor Nicholaos Silikas, Head of School.
The organising committee left nothing out including a video quiz, cocktail bar, fun photo oobth (all prints are confidential !!) and a tasty chocolate fountain. Later the energetic graduates took to the dance floor for a most enjoyable evening.
I was delighted to attend with my husband Russell to represent SOMANDA and look forward to student presidents attending our BGM in October. A special thanks to Chantelle Gunner who made us so welcome.
Having qualified in 1978 it was so lovely to see that strong traditions of dental education and professionalism remain active in Manchester.
Let’s hope that Somanda can continue to support the Graduation Ball in the future.
