Howard Totty RIP.

We regret to inform the alumni that one of our number, Howard Totty, died at the beginning of February at the age of 79 years.

He qualified in 1967 and had a fine bass singing voice which provided him with an alternative life to dentistry.

During his student days he was a stalwart of the university Gilbert & Sullivan Society in whose productions he featured prominently.

Following qualification in dentistry he involved himself in numerous solo productions and used dentistry to fund a degree in music.

He became a professional soloist in various venues in Europe, notably the Opera de Nancy in France as well as companies in the UK. In the early 1990s he was cast as “the Carpenter” in a production of “Phantom of the Opera” staged in the Manchester Opera House for a year.

Other productions continued until a decade ago when his Parkinson’s disease compromised his ability to continue. Our condolences are extended to his family.
