My name is Mark Edmondson
I qualified in Manchester in 1991 and have very fond memories of the University Dental Hospital. I cant believe it is 28 years ago – seems like yesterday!
I stayed in Manchester and worked for a year as a general duties house officer before moving to the 4B’s East Lancashire Maxillofacial Service, originally under the supervision of Professor John Lowry and Miss Maire Morton who were spectacular role models and mentors.
I received my FDS from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1995.
I worked in East Lancashire for 13 years as a staff grade surgeon and was involved with all aspects of patient care including dento-alveolar surgery, maxillofacial trauma and head and neck cancer.
I finally left the hospital service for private practice and currently work in 2 practices including Bamford Dental Practice in Rochdale (where I am one of the principals) and at Schofield and Pickup Dental Practice in Clitheroe. I offer specialist services in oral surgery and dental implantology.
I have always valued the opportunity for further education and have always enjoyed working within a team. I have been very lucky to have been part of several teams who have been caring, professional, inspirational and in my current role as one of 4 practice principals, we try to offer further education opportunities to clinicians and support staff alike.
I am very grateful to Somanda for the opportunity to attend a sedation course to update my skills. Intra venous sedation is a fantastic way of reducing anxiety for nervous patients, reducing the need for hospital referral or community based services.
Members of our team from both the Rochdale and Clitheroe practices attended the Mellow Dental Sedation Update Course at Rose Lane Dental Practice in Liverpool with Dr Roy Bennett. This is an excellent one day course teaching both theoretical and practical skills for clinicians and support staff involved with conscious sedation. This is without doubt the best sedation course I have attended and would recommend it to anyone needing to update their knowledge with latest guidelines for best practice.
I would like to thank Somanda and Dr Roy Bennett and his excellent team for this very enjoyable teaching opportunity.
