Some current dental students at Manchester Dental School may have heard of Somanda – we are an alumni group of the MDS graduates formed to keep in touch with our fellow students but also importantly to provide charitable financial support to existing students via our hardship fund, travel scholarships and student prizes. We are keen to spread the word about our work with current undergraduates and encourage them to get involved.
We were all students once too and we realise that some will fall upon hard times and need a little helping hand. We hope that you don’t find yourself in difficulties, but it is worth knowing that we are here.
We have also been able to facilitate students going on exchange trips abroad that they would not have been able to afford in some instances.
It is important that we try and ensure that we maintain and grow the membership to help in this endeavour and we therefore offer a student membership of Somanda for the princely sum of £1 per year, until you graduate.
This allows you to keep in touch with what Somanda is doing, including occasional e-mail updates and will maintain contact with you after graduation, when we hope you will be prepared to continue our work.
For little more than the cost of a bottle of milk, you can make a difference.
We would therefore ask you to become a student member, it only takes a minute or two and in joining your not only helping us but potentially your peers too. The online application is here. https://www.somanda.org.uk/membership/
We look forward to welcoming you.
